Umpire Overturns Call After Watching Facebook Video of the Play

Umpire Overturns Call After Watching Facebook Video of the Play

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO—An umpire righted his wrong this past weekend after a proactive baseball mom posted crystal clear video footage of an obvious blown call to Facebook.

“There’s no video replay in Little League, so we have to take matters into our own hands,” explained Julie Santana, whose son was called out at home in Saturday’s game. “I’m always sure to take shaky videos from the worst angles possible so I can keep umpires accountable in my various Facebook groups.”

“The video couldn’t be clearer,” admitted Jim Abner, the home plate ump who made the call, “All you have to do is see through the dirt cloud from the slide and imagine that the plate is further in front of the catcher. Take into account all the comments on the video from other parents and it’s a no brainer. I had no option but to call the league’s board and overturn the call.”

The official scorebooks were changed due to the overturned call, making the score 12-2, with Santana’s son’s team still taking the L. Abner plans to take action to assure this doesn’t happen again. He has asked parents to post videos of close calls on his Facebook wall so he can see from their vantage point, which is preferable to being on the field.
